So first off, before I apply my actual base makeup, I always ensure that I have a high SPF on my face. Technically, sunscreen should be worn all year round, but it is especially needed in the summer since there are even more UVA and UVB rays being emitted from the bright sun. I personally like to use the Solait Mattifying Face Sun Fluid SPF50, it has a thin consistency and feels very light on the skin, the sunscreen isn't very mattifying, but it leaves a natural finish on the skin. It's great because it has both UVA and UVB protection, make sure your sunscreen has both too!
Next is a primer, there are various different primers that have different functions in order to prep your skin. The one I am using at the moment is the Rimmel Fix & Perfect Primer #2, I like to use this because it smooths the surface of the skin in order to allow my base makeup products to glide on much more easily onto my skin. Not only that, but it also elongates the wear of my makeup and prevents my skin from becoming oily.
Now on to the base makeup, personally for me, I like to go for either a great long-wearing foundation - Maxfactor Facefinity All Day Flawless foundation, or a light-weight bb cream - Holika Holika Aqua Petite Jelly bb cream. The Maxfactor foundation is a medium coverage foundation, but can be sheered out, it is very long-wearing and can control my oily skin for quite a while during the hot and humid weather at the moment, this foundation is also the same as the Covergirl Outlast Foundation over in the US. The Holika Holika bb cream isn't as great for oil control, but can still be worked with, however, it feels extremely light on the skin and seems almost like i'm not wearing it at all.
For me, powder is a must-have all year round, so I definitely need one for the summer. The one I am using at the moment is the Lioele Skin Fix Powder Pact [Oil Control Type], so this product is definitely targeted for my skin type, because I become oily quite easily. And this powder is definitely great for control my oils and keeps my makeup on for a much longer time than other powders i've tried have done before. Although it doesn't keep oils at bay for the whole day, but it does for a reasonably long time considering that I do have an extremely oily t-zone.
Talking about summer makeup, bronzed skin is a hot topic, therefore a bronzer is a must-have item! Here I have the Bourjois Bronzing Primer that i'm loving at the moment. Although it is targeted as a primer, I like to use it over my base makeup. It doesn't have any shimmer to it, and has a mousse-like consistency, therefore it blends into the skin seamlessly and creates a very natural bronzed glow to the skin, which I adore.
In addition, summer is all about bright colours! So why not incorporate them into your makeup routine as well? The blushes I have been really enjoying so far are the Sleek Blush By 3 palettes in Lace and Sweet Cheeks. Lace includes corally orange toned blushes, and Sweet Cheeks includes pink toned blushes, so there is a wide variety of colours to choose from. The blushes are all amazingly pigmented and blend in really well onto my skin.
I don't really wear eye makeup much, but if I do on those rare occasions, then I would definitely go minimal with just mascara, not any normal mascara, but it must be waterproof! Although I would wear waterproof all year round to hold the curl for my stick straight eyelashes, but for summer, it would help to make sure that it won't melt and smudge in the heat. Or some may want to wear mascara in the pool or at the beach, so that would prevent the mascara from running when in the water. The ones I really like are the Maybelline the Rocket, and the Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus.
Finally onto lip products, similarly to blushes, why not wear bright colours? A bright colour on the lips can easily complete a makeup look, even when the rest is very simple and plain. I really enjoy sheer lipsticks such as the Revlon Lip Butters in Tutti Frutti & Juicy Papaya, tinted lip balms are also a similar product, I am also loving the Tony Moly Bunny Petite Gloss Bars. And finally, a bright lipstick is also great, you can wear it in various different ways - full on or blend it out to make it more wearable, I really like the Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Lipstick in Shocking Coral.
